Sam Houston Tollway Widening
The HCTRA system covers approximately 83 miles of roadway in the Houston/Harris County area.
GCE was contracted by HCTRA to design the addition of a lane, the widening of the bridge structure at Kempwood Drive, an intersection improvement at Westview Drive, Hammerly Blvd., Kempwood Drive, and Clay Road, and an addition of an exit ramp at Clay Road on Sam Houston Tollway.
GCE services included the preparation of schematics, final design, and preparation of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) documents for the project. Work included drainage analysis, pavement design, traffic control plans, traffic signal modification, signage and pavement marking, bridge foundation and structural design, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SW3P), and construction staging. Work also included coordination with agencies such as TxDOT for project drainage, and traffic control.
GCE is also responsible for providing construction support services including assistance during the bidding period, contractor selection, and shop drawing review, clarifications, as-built drawings and project close-out.
